Romance and the Netti Pot

Remember last week I said I would be back to regular posting? Then I didn’t? I feel a little guilty about that. As usual, the girls gave me their cold. The fatigue has made it a little more difficult to keep up with things.

A couple of days ago during my suffering, I remembered that I had a Netti Pot. For those of you unfamiliar, a Netti Pot is an odd little teapot that you stick up your nose to clean out your sinuses. A pharmacist talked me into trying it the last time I had a cold. I must have been looking at him like he was nuts when he demonstrated how to use one.

Pharmacist- “You just tip your head and let the water run through your sinuses. You’d be surprised at how many people are using them now.”
Me- “Have you used one?”
Pharmacist- “Yes and it really helped.”
Me- “That really could just kill the romance in a relationship, couldn’t it? Mine’s already dead though, so I’ll take it.”

So the last couple of evenings I have stood at the kitchen sink cleaning out my nose. N has sinus problems so I talked him into doing it, too. N was able to breathe through both sides of his nose for the first time in recent history. I think we sometimes forget that low-tech can be very effective.

I was going through old picture files last night and found the one above. It was taken about three years ago when the girls first got their little car. I thought it was probably more interesting than the visual of me sticking a little pot up my nose. I posted it in an effort to salvage this post.

I bought one NeilMedi nasal rinse thingy. It's like a nettipot but it is just a plastic squeeze bottle you squirt the 'solution' (or is question) into your nose and out comes the answer. But when I got clogged I took a little break, maybe I was worried the "solution" would get stuck in my head like a song you can't get off your mind. Anyhow, maybe I will try it again tonight :)
thanks for the encouraging word. great looking car pic too.

I have a netti pot....and It's sat under my bathroom sink...I think I"m too scared for anything to run out of my nose...I remember what it's like having milk shoot out when you laugh too hard....

I had never heard of a nettipot. I've used the nasal rinse before, though. You spray it up one side of the nose and it runs out the other. It actually has tea in it? You should post a picture!

I like the picture, cute! And you're right, that would kill the romance...lol.

About your comment left on my blog a parenting step...he is excited to be a big brother, but its hard to know if he really does fully understand...but we talk to him about it as much as possible to prepare him. He just wants to "play toys" with the baby!

That's the first time I have ever heard of a Netti pot. Interesting.

Thank you for not sharing any photos, haha. However, I do love the pic of your girls.

I hope you feel better soon!

wow - i just finally tried that myself about two weeks ago after a visit w/the doc and sinus xrays. I was doubtful, and truly afraid I was gonna drown myself (the doc got quite a good laugh out of that one).. but it actually helps! And I didn't drown!

Feel better soon :)

I should try a neti pot, since I have sinus troubles. It just seems like it might feel like waterboarding to me

Huh! Sounds cool.

I still just boil water and hold me head over it draped in a towel. Sometimes I throw one of those shower soothers in just for the fizzle effect!

I have heard about these things...dubiously opined about their effectiveness. Maybe I will try them now. I too have not breathed out of both nostrils simultaneously for years upon years... But it sounds like great fun.

Oh, I'm still reluctant to try the NettiPot. I have sinus issues but I think I would feel like I was drowning if I tried that thing! I know, I'm being a wimp...

Thanks for stopping by Crumbs today!

lol. You made me think of a time I did this thing with the ear...looks like a cone, you light in up on the other end, and the oxygen sucks out ear wax into it's cone???

My staff convinced me to do it one night after work and I looked like I was smoking 'something' through my ear.

I'd probably cough and the water would somehow come down my throat and I choke :)

From SITS and part of the welcomistas and wanted to stop by!
