Crazy Again

This is not the post that I was planning on writing today. If you came here looking for funny, please skip over this one. Go directly to “Old People Feet”.

My sister is crazy again. Just to clarify for any new readers, when I say ‘crazy’, I mean really crazy. She is having a full-blown psychotic episode and it’s not pretty. You can read some of the crazy history here, here and here.

She has gradually been going in that direction for the last couple of months. I was not aware of just how bad it has become until today when I spoke with Lynne on the phone. She described waking up feeling as if she had been poked with a needle. She told me that she thought that someone had given her a shot. Because that can happen when you are sleeping at home in your own bed.

She had told my thirteen year-old nephew, J., the same story. He emailed my mom asking for help. He’s scared to be with her. My dad went to my sister’s house this afternoon and managed to talk to J. without my sister hearing. This may sound like a simple task but it’s not so simple when my sister has extreme paranoia. She had to be distracted by a friend so J. was allowed out of her sight for ten minutes.

J. told my dad that Lynne took him out of school early one day this week. He said that she took him to get his haircut and explained, “it’s for security reasons.”

It’s likely to get a whole lot worse.

Ugh. I'm so sorry to hear that...it's not easy to see people fall apart. I've watched my friend get so bad she needed to be committed for cutting, depression, etc. (which, I'm sure, is small potatoes compared to what's happened before to you and your sister). Sending good thoughts your way.

We have been going through this with my aunt. People breaking into her house at night, etc. It's hard to watch someone disappear into this alternate universe that seems completely normal and logical to them.

Have you noticed any association with the seasons in relation to her episodic psychosis? I'm still thinking there is a very plausible organic explanation for her cyclical lunacy, some sort of secondary type paranoia. Does she eat acorns grown under drought conditions? (This made the squirrels dangerously spasmodic in Michigan one year.) Remember how they found out about LSD growing on rye bread after the Salem witch trials? Does she ingest Chinese toothpaste? Has she been checked for brainular parasites? Celiac disease? IgG food sensitivities? Candida toxins (like in autistic spectrum disorders)? How are her kidneys and liver functions? Have you ruled out Mad Cow disease? (My mom has Daft Cow Syndrome.)

oh no.. sorry to hear that. Mental health issues are so hard on families. You're in my heart today.

Man, I'm sorry. I have a brother with a serious mental illness, and I can empathize.

Oh crap, Lisa. So it wasn't the potassium imbalance? I'm thinking of you both, hoping everything goes okay for Lynne.

There's nothing I can add that hasn't already been said, other than you are in my thoughts.

I always appreciate your honesty in your posts.

Sorry to hear this, hope it turns out alright in the end, as it has before.
