She'll be the Kid With the Shovel and a Map....

The girls were watching a movie a while ago and there was a scene showing cows. Of course this resulted in EVEN more conversation since watching a movie quietly is apparently not an option.

Claire- "I want to live on a farm and ride a horse!"
Katie- "Me too! Me too! But not the horse part."

It's obvious to anyone reading this that I spend a LOT of time with kids. I do try to take whatever opportunity I have to brain-wash, I mean teach the girls things that are important. This might vary quite a bit from day-to-day. One day it might be a lesson on empathy, the next it might be a lesson on loading the dishwasher. Yesterday it was about keeping control of your own money (and life). The five year-old version of it anyway.

Me- "When you’re a grown-up girl, you are going to keep all of your money and NOT give it to anyone, right? You can’t give it to any boy. Ok?"
Katie- "But what if my pockets are full?"
Me- "Well, then you take it to the bank if your pockets are full."
Katie- "And then they sell it back to you?"

Yep, that sounds about right. Or maybe she should just get a bigger purse. That'll give us something to talk about tomorrow, right after she's done 'learning' to clean the oven.....

Yes, and don't forget about the part to get long-term disability insurance.

Sigh. I had a good plan, almost. Almost.

That is a very good lesson - not the oven part but the no money to any boy part. The bigger purse is funny, though you'll have to teach them about purse-snatchers.

At around 14, they'll convieniently forget the oven cleaning and dishwasher lessons.

I wish my Mom had been more conscientious about teaching me important life lessons. It's a bitch to learn them when you're older.

You know, on the other side of that, a guy can't give his money to girls either. It only leads to trouble - well, girls lead to trouble anyway...
