Baby Calls Police, Mom Embarrassed

Yesterday I woke up hearing the baby talking in her crib. This isn’t unusual since Marin typically wakes up and plays in her bed before demanding that I get her out. She will finally get bored and demand that I get her up. But yesterday I not only heard her talking but I could hear another voice as well. This was disturbing since the two of us should have been the only ones in the house. I heard a woman saying, “Where’s your mommy? I need to talk to your mommy.” Marin then said, “Mommy seeping.”

I was half awake when I went into her room to investigate. I saw Marin standing in her crib, naked, talking on her cell phone which is just an old phone with no service. I took her phone and said ‘hello?’ thinking that she must have gotten the Sprint customer service people on the phone. Instead the woman identified herself as the 911 operator. I was shocked that Marin had managed to dial 911 with her random button pushing. The woman asked me my name and I told her. Then she wanted my address and I got a little nervous but told started to tell her anyway. Then I pretended to be losing the signal and hung up. I’m not sure why, it’s just that I was caught off guard and it just seemed easier that way.

I took my naked two year-old downstairs and was in the process of dressing her when the doorbell rang. There were two police officers at the door to investigate the disconnected 911 call. I discovered that the front door was completely unlocked when I went to let them in. They just laughed about the baby calling and left after making sure that was all it was. I realized that N had left the door unlocked and that I was lucky I didn’t awake to a couple of cops in my bedroom. I’m not sure what they would have thought upon seeing a naked toddler with a cell phone.

Marin is no longer allowed to have a charged phone. She spent much of the day yesterday handing me her phone saying, “Charge it” and “hewo boken”. Poor baby. Why can’t they make a toy cell phone that looks and sounds like a real one? She doesn’t want a toy phone that is the bright colors geared for kids. Everyone knows those won’t work in an emergency.

OMG, that's funny. At only two years old, Marin is quite a little character. How did she get the cell phone while being in her crib?

You certainly have your hands full with her! I'm glad that the police officers simply laughed :)

The officers were probably glad to have a stress-free stop to break up their day!

We had one of those a few months ago too. Not having a land line in the house since Wyatt (now 5) was born, I decided to reinstall a "real" phone in the house. I warned Wyatt "not to play with the phone." But I still found him sitting behind the couch playing with the receiver. Hanging up the phone and scolding him that the police might come. I thought nothing of it. Then two minutes later the CHP was knocking at my door. The look on Wyatt's face was priceless. He cried for like an hour...

That's so funny! I have had my two yr old grab my cell phone and dial 911 a few times while in the supermarket or something. I usually panic and hang up too. LOL
