I had a leak under the kitchen sink recently. The baby was upset by the puddle of water on the floor. Apparently it disturbed her sense of order. She immediately leaned over to get a closer look at said, “Oh, shit.” I was a little surprised just because normally she’ll just cut loose with the “f” word. Ok, I am just kidding about that, but the “oh, shit” part is true.
When you have kids you have to expect a little of that sort of thing. The proper response is to down play the incident to avoid more of the same in the future. That’s a little difficult when you have older siblings around that find a swearing toddler to be humorous.
Another thing about having kids is all the stupid things that come out of your mouth that seem to make sense when you are saying them. Just the last few days I have said both “Get off the walls!” and “Quit licking that baby!” And I’ve probably said “Oh, shit” a few times as well.

How about, "Noah, stop climbing on mommy's spine!"
Oh yes, older siblings laughing hysterically have a way of encouraging the cussing baby. Having a leak under the sink would disturb my sense of order as well. No telling what I would say.
OH maaaan try this one on for fun.. 15 year old son.. 2 toddlers.. the cursing abounds.. it's great when you are at the play ground and hear your 3 year old say "I was on that swing you Beee-Hatch!", ah the joys of parenting!
I once heard a baby call his mom a Mother F-er at Target! Nothing is funnier than a cussing baby. Nothing.
I'm sorry, but your cussing baby is hysterical! Thanks for the laugh. I really do like, "get off the walls!" I am still laughing.
Hey, swearing is the spice of language, should be used in small quantities and gets a reaction. I can see how Claire and Katie might encourage Marin's verbal adventures though.
my first borns first words were "oh shit" he wouldn't stop saying it for MONTHS.
now he is three and he thinks it is okay to say shit if he is saying it like this, "mom we don't say shit right?"
totally thinks he can get away with it
oh god i'm an asshole, i commeted as "m" not misguided mommy
So we are not alone in our little world...Ella sits quietly and whispers "shit" when something goes wrong. This phenomenon has fortunately decreased but was very embarrassing....and my I say that she learned it from her eldest 7 year old cousin. Thanks.
I can't decide which is funnier: wht the baby said or what you've said... =)
