A Bit About HDR

The photos posted below are recent ones that I took using a technique called high dynamic-range or HDR. For any of you that are interested in photography, to do HDR you need to take a minimum of three different exposures and then merge the images with special software. A process called tonemapping then allows you to more realistically capture the broad exposure range that your eyes see but the camera doesn't. Cool, huh?

sounds complicated - but the pictures are VERY cool!

Beautiful photos. Interesting effect, rather painterly result. Is the intention of HDR to get more brightness into the pics, or to add interest and reveal detail?

Very interesting effect. They almost look painted. I love the one of the truck especially. Wonderful how you can see all the tones and shades so clearly.

How much does the soft wear cost? I love the look on the photos. What's it called. I take a lot of pictures and am always up for new processing procedures.

So I've been researching this HDR stuff ever since you first brought it up. And it sounds very difficult, like it takes alot of work to make the picture look just right.

Well done!
