Always Thinking

My teenage son left for a visit with his out-of-state grandparents today. I thought that maybe his little sisters would miss him, since he is going to be gone for two weeks.

I was talking to Claire and Katie, five and four, a few hours after their brother left: “So, are you guys missing William?”

Claire, sounding disgusted: “For God’s sake, he’s only been gone a day!”

Katie, sounding hopeful: “Can we have his room?”
